How to run a planning poker session

Planning poker (Scrum poker) is a consensus estimation technique. Here is a full round, start to finish.

  1. 1

    Create a room

Name the room, pick a card deck and open it. No account required.

  2. 2

    Invite your team

Share the room link. Teammates join with a name, an avatar and their role.

  3. 3

    Pick a story

Set the topic to the user story or task you want to estimate and discuss it briefly.

  4. 4

    Vote privately

Each person picks a card. Votes stay hidden so no one anchors on the first number.

  5. 5

    Reveal & discuss

Flip all cards at once. If estimates differ, the high and low voters explain, then the team re-votes.

  6. 6

    Record & move on

Agree on a number, it is saved to the round history, and you move to the next story.
